My Picture a Day for 2006

This is a brief photo-diary of my photographic adventures in 2006. There will be a post each day of my favorite image that I have taken that day. I hope you enjoy them.

Name:
Location: Florida, United States

Keeping this profile thing short, I take some pictures and I go on occasional rants. This blog is to give me an outlet for those two activities (mostly photos).

Day 273

Today I shot my first wedding. This photo was taken while I was there in the morning checking the place out and taking some light readings. I am in the middle of processing the pictures so I will have one of those to post for Saturday's picture soon.

Day 272

It was time for another trip to Eola Park on the way home from work. In case you didn't recognize it, this is a duck.

Day 271

This may look like an odd picture. Just a salt shaker...right? We have come to believe that this shaker is haunted. Reba says my mom. It lives on the back of the stove above where all of the cknobs are. When someone is cooking in the oven, it will occasionally throw itself onto the stove top even when no one is touching the stove. Twilight Zone?

Day 270

Tonight was wings and softball night. This is a big ol' fake sunflower that someone gave to Reba.

Day 269

Tonight, I got annoyed with Party Poker and decided to switch over to Poker Stars. I got into a tournament that started getting long and was worried that I may not get my picture taken today. I didn't want to break the streak. Luckily, Max walked up and suddenly began attacking my sock like a wild animal. Unfortunately, it was still on my foot. He generally lets up when he senses meat though so it wasn't too bad. I had my camera next to me and got off this shot

Day 268

Finally, the terrible picture is gone. Yea!! Today, Reba went shopping with Melissa (famous for being one of the very few who ever leaves comments here). Reba came home with a couple of candle holders, one of which became a subject of the pic of the day.

Bonus Picture Time

I'm putting a bonus picture in because quite frankly, Reba really hates the cat crap picture and wants it to disappear from the page. I don't think one bonus is going to do it. The more I look at it, the more sure I am am that 1 won't do it so I'll put on two bonus pictures. These are both from our recent trip to N.C. One, (the foggy looking one) is from the top of Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi. The other one is a boathouse at the Biltmore Estate. This is where guests went to relax and reflect. They also caught fish from this bass pond for dinners in the mansion. If this does not get rid of the cat box photo, sorry, it will go tomorrow.

Day 267

This will get me caught up for now. This is a bowl of watermelon. I guess I probably didn't really need to say that cause you guys are all intellegent folks and I'm sure figured it out.

Day 266---- UF 26, UK 7

In honor of Florida's 4th victory of the season. Lookin' good!!! I do have one question though. What was the deal with booing Chris Leak?

Day 265

Sometimes even on consecutive days...

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Day 264

Sometimes simplicity is the key. Also, sometimes laziness drives the results.

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Day 263

After completing a marathon editing session, I am going to try very hard to get caught up here. The cat was just laying around looking really enthused about me sticking a camera in his face so I thought I would use this one.

Day 262

A little table top photography.

Day 261

If I wasn't such an idiot, I would have been able to take a picture of this rose a few days ago. I got this for Reba on Friday on my wasy home from taking the boat to the shop. Somehow, between the time I bought it and when I got home, I forgot.I found it in the car on Sunday night and left it on the counter so Reba would find it in the morning. After spending the weekend in the hot car, it didn't look so good.

Day 260

Hopefully this will let me upload a picture tonight.

Saturday, September 16, 2006

Day 259

Keep in mind that Reba is not very happy about this one. I was watching football games tonight (specifically the FSU-Clemson game) and was needing some inspiration for a picture. After the game was over, I said to myself, "What did this performance by FSU remind me of?" thus the resulting picture.

Day 258

After making a couple of trips to Orlando today to get the boat to the mechanic, I took a new route home in an attempt to avoid some Friday afternoon traffic. This side trip took me into Lake County and through the Wekiva River area. I noticed a sign that I had never paid much attention to before. It was for the Seminole Forest. There was a nice little park with some trails and a pond. It was getting late and I didn't have time to do much walking but I did get a couple of shots of the lake. Take away the fishing dock and the lake itself looked to be far from civilization.

Day 257

A little eye of ceramic frog.
I thought about going into a long drawn out history of where this frog originated and how it ended up living with us but I decided not to.

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

Day 256

Molly Malone's had their second softball night tonight. The other team scored 12 in the first inning but after that it was a very respectable showing. Final: Other team 20, Molly's 9.

Day 255

In Sanford there is a park called Sylvan Park. Remember the mushroom picture? It was taken there too. I stopped by today and found this old boardwalk which had been damaged by the hurricanes in 2004 and had yet to be repaired. It was grown over and run down but I thought it looked interesting.

Monday, September 11, 2006

Day 254

I stopped at Eola Park again today for a shot or two. There was a huge flock of pigeons on the northeast side of the lake and a lady was feeding them with a loaf of bread. Strangely, every minute or so, they would all take off, fly around for 30 seconds or so and then go back for more food. Eventually, they flew directly over my head. The result...this picture.

Day 253

Candle in the dark.

Saturday, September 09, 2006

Day 252

Trying a little close-up photography.

Friday, September 08, 2006

day 251

I was experimenting again, tonight with custom white balance, (is supposed to make the color right even under weird lighting.) This picture is of an item that I have owned longer than almost anything else I have (which is strange for a keyring cause they usually break after a while). I have had this since 1980. It was given to me by my ex mother- in-law when I got engaged to her daughter. (Not Reba). If you look at the inscription, it says it all. She knew I was crazy for doing it.

Day 250

Lovebirds on a cloud.

Day 249

Reba sewing!!

Day 248

We got back late Monday night but both of us had taken Tuesday off so we could sleep in. It was probably a good thing too since I was a little sore from all the stairs and trails. Thank goodness for this stuff.

Day 248 Bonus Picture

After we left Chimney Rock Sunday, we stopped at the side of Brown River. We had noticed it on the way in and it looked pretty cool so we figured we would catch it on the way out. It was hard to find a place to park along the road since it seems that many others had the same idea. I'm amazed that I actually got a few shots off without people in them.

Day 247

Today we went to the Biltmore House in Asheville. This was owned by the Vanderbilts and is a huge house with a tremendous estate and gardens. I have to admit that I was much more impressed than I thought I would be. Today's picture is one from one of the many gardens on the estate. If you would like to know more about the place you can check it out by clicking on the above link.

Day 246

After a good night's sleep we were off again to explore. Someone had told me the evening before about a couple of "must sees" on the parkway so we started out there since the hotel was only a few minutes away from an entrance. One place was called Craggy Gardens. The other was The Mount Mitchell State Park which boasts the highest point east of the Mississippi River. After visiting those, we headed off to a place called Chimney Rock where they have an observation area on the side of a mountain. It also features a 400 ft. waterfall. We hiked to the base of the falls. It was well worth the trip. We did take the 25 story elevator to the obsevation deck though. We had done enough climbing for the day. Today's picture is from the trail to the waterfall. By the way, as soon as I get through them all, I will be posting some N.C. pictures at another site. I'll give you a link as soon as I get it together, probably later today or tomorrow.

Day 245

As I mentioned, we left for N.C. at 2:00 am Saturday morning. That got us into Asheville at the hotel about noon Saturday. It would have been sooner but the directions from AAA left a lot to be desired this time. In their defense, they are usually very accurate but had some street names off this time. After the very friendly lady at the desk grunted that we could not check in until around 3:00, we decided to go for a drive. After a short time, we located an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and started heading North. If you have never had a chance to drive on the BRP, you should. After all these years in Florida, I didn't know you could drive that far without seeing a Burger King, a 7-11 or a billboard. This was taken at one of the many overlooks that are provided for viewing.

Day 244

Almost ready to leave! We left Friday night, really Saturday morning about 2:00 am. This was a quick one between when I got off work and when I hit the sack to get a couple of hours sleep before I had to drive for 9hrs.
