My Picture a Day for 2006

This is a brief photo-diary of my photographic adventures in 2006. There will be a post each day of my favorite image that I have taken that day. I hope you enjoy them.

Name:
Location: Florida, United States

Keeping this profile thing short, I take some pictures and I go on occasional rants. This blog is to give me an outlet for those two activities (mostly photos).

Day 334

For those of you who live in coastal southern states, you probably know that today is significant because it marks the official end of the 2006 hurricane season. In honor of this day, I am submitting a photo of one of our hurricane lanterns that fortunately went unused this year.

Day 333

Ironworks. Just an abstract sort of thing I was playing with.

Day 332

Checkmate!!

Day 331

Spinning umbrella.

Day 330

Another lazy day getting mentally ready to go back to work tomorrow after a 4 day weekend. I thought this was a neat looking bottle.

Day 329

I went to a local birding trail today. Unfortunately it started drizzling a little so the venture got cut short. I didn't love anything I got today. I hoped a bird would pop out of this but no luck.

Day 328

Things have settled down a little since Thanksgiving. It seemed pretty quiet around here today. I had a chance to go to Gemini Springs for a few minutes this evening. This heron sat on the pier for a long time. I got to within about 7 feet of him before he finally flew off. I was amazed that he stayed that long.

P.S. If you happened to check the site last night and think you saw a different picture here, you are not crazy. The more I looked at it, the less I liked it so I put this one up instead. (Same heron)

Day 327

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Day 326

This will be the last of the flower series. Most of them have just about had it and I think it is time to move to something different anyway.

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Day 325

What do you know...? These dang flowers are still going strong. I think I'll be disappointed when they die off. They make good models. They stay where you put them, don't gripe about the lights, and work cheap.

Monday, November 20, 2006

Day 324

OK, OK, I know it's another flower shot but they are really holding up well. This may be the last in the series. We'll see.

Sunday, November 19, 2006

Day 323

Well the flowers have made it through another day although Reba says if I keep messing with them they won't last much longer. We'll see for tomorrow.

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Day 322

I think this will probably be the last night that I can use these flowers. They are still in good shape but they may not look so good tomorrow. It was nice to have some time today to play with some photos.

Day 321

Hooray, I am all caught up! Hopefully I will be able to stay current for the rest of the year. I wouldn't count on it though.

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Day 320

This is a picture of a bunch of flowers that Reba brought home tonight.

Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Day 319

This looks like an old clock but isn't that terribly old. Reba got this for me for my birthday a few years ago. It is fairly different though because it is a totally mechanical, spring driven, wind-up clock. I guess they do still make 'em like they used to.

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

Day 318

Not really much to say here.

Monday, November 13, 2006

Day 317

Just part of a ceiling fan. These short day suck. They make it hard to go out and shoot something good.

Sunday, November 12, 2006

Day 316

I'm not going to get completely caught back up tonight but I am at least making a dent in it. This was taken for friends. The wine bottle is enjoying another Florida sunset.

Saturday, November 11, 2006

Day 315

I watched another FSU game tonight. Since I am not allowed (orders of Reba) to post another cat crap picture, this is the only other thing that I could find that I thought had comparable intellegence to FSU's offensive coordinator.

Day 314 Wedding Bells

Tonight I shot a small wedding over in New Smyrna Beach. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Thursday, November 09, 2006

Day 313

This is a piece of Waterford Crystal with some enhancements.

Wednesday, November 08, 2006

Day 312

I was off today so I stopped in at the Seminole Forest (I think that's what it's called). I was hoping to see one of the black bears that are supposed to show up periodically but no luck tioday.

Day 311

We went and voted today. I guess it didn't end up doing a lot of good but it's something people need to do. Now I have to admit that I had to hold my nose this year in some cases when I marked the ballot, but it was definately a "lesser of the two evils" thing this time. For those that without really knowing what and who you were voting for but just decided that t was time to change parties, just remember that sometimes you need to be careful what you ask for. Is there anyone my age who had to take Americanism vs. Communism in high school? Watch congress this term. You will probably recognize some things.

Remember in the coming years that three of the key points to making Communism feasible are

1) A progressive tax which takes money from the people who have it and give it to those that don't. Sound familiar. How's the USSR doing now?

2) Take the job of educating kids from the parents and give it to the government. Sound familiar?

3) Remove God from as much of peoples thinking as possible. Sound familiar?

I feel a rant coming on but I'll save it for another blog. When I get it done I'll post a link.

Good luck USSA. (United Socialist States of America)

Day 310

Reba played in the flower bed today.

Day 308

We went over to New Smyrna Beach this evening to take a few sample shots of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. I really like the stained glass windows.

Friday, November 03, 2006

Day 307

I was off work today so I had a little time to play. I went to Gemini Springs for a while. Squirrels were everywhere today.

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Day 306

Looking into a jar of peanuts.

Wednesday, November 01, 2006

Day 305 OK, this was weird.

I have a story about tonight's picture. I really should have done this one last night but I didn't..

Last Christmas, Reba wanted a Roomba. For anyone who isn't familiar with them, they are robotic vacuum cleaner that you can turn loose in your house and it will vacuum the floor and then dock itself in the charger to get ready for next time. This one worked fine for about 3 months and then just died. I checked it and it just appeared to have had something go wrong inside. Of course Reba had thrown away the receipts and other items necessary for the warranty to be honored. So, it has been sitting in the family room on it's charger but showing no signs of life for about 7 or 8 months now. Last night (Keep in mind that it was Halloween) we were in the living room when we heard a strange sound. As we searched out the sound, we entered the family room to find that the Roomba had come back to life, turned itself on, and decided to go ahead and vacuum the floor while it was awake. It ran around for a while, docked itself and started recharging. If it had been any night but Hallowee...
